The Ambassador of Italy in Somalia, Carlo Campanile, inaugurated the Municipal Market of Nagaad, in the Karan district, built by UN-Habitat with funds from the Italian Cooperation. The district of Karaan is one of the most depressed areas of the capital, with high rates of housing density and absence of basic infrastructure. The Italian cooperation initiative was implemented in close collaboration with the Municipal Government of Mogadishu and intends to provide a structure at the service of the local community to promote commercial exchange, to create new opportunities for employment and, at the same time, to establish a new cultural and social aggregation space.
