UN-MPTF (Multi-Partner Trust Fund): Italian contribution to infrastructures in the justice and higher education sectors.

On Tuesday, September 25th, the signing of the Italian contribution agreement of about 3.3 million euro took place in Mogadishu in favor of UNDP’s program of strengthening the rule of law. Ambassador of Italy Carlo Campanile, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General in Somalia, Peter De Clerq, the Minister of State of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Kehyr Abdi and the Minister of Public Works, Abdifitah Mohammed Ibrahim presided the ceremony.

The Italian contribution will be used for important infrastructure projects, such as the reconstruction of the Galcayo city prison in the Galmudug State, the rehabilitation of the building that houses the Supreme Court in Mogadishu and the construction of the perimeter infrastructure of the Somali National University (UNS), based in the capital.

These interventions represent a support to two sectors, justice and higher education, which are fundamental in the process of consolidation of the capacities of the Somali State, to which Italy has been contributing for a long time in a perspective of full collaboration with the UN agencies active in the country and ownership of the Somali institutions responsible for implementing the projects.
