Italian Development Cooperation: trainings in Neonatal and Obstetrical Emergenices

An Advanced Training Course in Neonatal and Obstetrical Emergencies, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and coordinated by Dr. Kadigia Ali Mohamud, was held at East Africa University in Bosaso and Group Hospital and Gargaar Hospital in Hargeisa from 20th May to 2nd June 2017.

Since 2011-2012, the Italian Cooperation has been significantly supporting projects aimed at training midwives/qualified nurses of Maternal and Child Health centers and recent medical graduates from major regional universities in recognizing and dealing with Obstetric and Neonatal emergencies for reducing maternal and neonatal mortality.

The health professionals (16 persons) attending the course were from Puntland (Garowe and Bosaso), from Somaliland (Borama and Hargeysa) and in one case from Mogadishu.

The design, organization and implementation of the present project, with its multiregional character, is the result of a close collaboration of highly qualified doctors from the Somali diaspora and very experienced and competent doctors working in Somalia/Somaliland.
