The internationalisation of the Italian higher education system is a priority objective of public and cultural diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI). It is in fact a lever for the cultural and economic development of our country and an effective instrument of foreign policy.
The attraction of international students to Italian higher education institutions is an objective on which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is working in concert with the Ministry of University and Research, the Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities and other important players in the academic sector. To facilitate student mobility, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation annually provides scholarships for foreign students and, through the diplomatic–consular network, issues study visas and legalizations of qualifications.
