The Embassy of Italy in Somalia hosted the celebrations of the Italian National Unity and Armed Forces Day on the 5th of November in Mogadishu, to pay tribute to the end of the Great War.
The Acting Minister of Defence Abdullahi Olad Roble, the highest Somali Authority present, took the opportunity to thank the Italian Armed Forces for their work in favour of the stabilization process undergoing in Somalia.
The Defence Attaché, Colonel Emiliani, remarked the reopening of his Office in 2015 and that this is the first celebration of this National Day held in the Somali capital in over 20 years. Italy, Colonel Emiliani recalled, contributes 60% of the resources aimed at the European Training Mission EUTM-S for the Somali Armed Forces, of which it still retains Comand.
In a brief statement the Ambassador of Italy Carlo Campanile remembered the victims of the latest terrorist attacks in Mogadishu, and proceeded to confer the Honors of Knighthood in the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic to the Rector of the Somali National University Mohamed Ahmed Jimale.
While thanking the Italian Authorities for the prestigious decoration, Rector Jimale lauded the ample Italian contribution, also channelled through the Italian Cooperation, especially in the field of Higher Education and collaboration between the Italian Universities and the Somali National University.
