Italy has always manifested its closeness to Somalia, but more so during these tragic circumstances.
The Italian Government had announced its contribution from the Emergency Fund towards the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society (IFRC) to support the medical assistance efforts of the Somali Red Crescent.
Through the Civil Military Cooperaion Contingent of the Italian Armed Forces (CIMIC), who are operating in support of EUTM, Italy has further distributed 200 meal kits to as many households in the Districts of Wadajir and Hondun.
The distribution has seen the direct involvement of the Somali District Commissioners.
This has been an effort to translate, in tangible terms, the messages of solidarity that Italy has expressed in these past days through its highest Echelons including the President of the Republic Mattarella, the Prime Minister Gentiloni and Minister of Foreign Affairs Alfano, towards the institutions and the people of Somalia.
