Handover ceremony of four vessels to the Somali Security Forces

Today, the handover ceremony of four vessels aimed at patrolling Somali coasts took place in the port of Mogadishu. The Chief of staff Major General Ahmed Jimale Ged, the Commander of the Somali Navy, Admiral Maddey Nur Sheikh Ufurow and the Commander of the Coastguard, Admiral Said Aden Yusuf attended the event together with Ambassador Carlo Campanile, Military Attaché Colonel Carlo Emiliani and EUTM Commander General Pietro Addis.

The donation is tangible proof of the Italian support to Somali security forces at this delicate transitional stage for the Country. Transit through Somali waters is still considered a risk for maritime safety. For this reason Italian and international patrol vessels are continuously present in the area. The four Italian vessels are aimed at contributing to the security of the maritime zone close to the Somali coastline.
