Italian National Day

Mogadishu, 25/05/2017: The Italian Embassy in Somalia celebrated its National Day, in remembrance of the vote on June 2nd 1946, that abolished the monarchy. Italian Ambassador to Somalia H.E Carlo Campanile noted the mutual interests between Somalia and Italy, highlighting the two countries’ shared history. He lauded Somalia for the progress it has made at stabilization, albeit under difficult circumstances. “The tremendous progress achieved by Somalia in the past years should allow for some hope and optimism,” he told guests attending the celebrations. “Italy intends to play a vital role in spurring a Somali-owned process of growth and stabilization. We will be, as we have been since its birth, by Somalia’s side,” the Ambassador affirmed.

The Italian government has played a significant role in the training of the Somali Police Force and other security forces under the European Union Training Mission (EUTM). Italy also supports Somalia’s health and education sectors, through Italian non-governmental organizations stressed H.E Mahdi Mohamed Guled, the deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, who was the chief guest at the celebrations.
